Semi-closed systems, unlike open systems, contain a breathing bag. They are systems where there is fresh gas flow and the air released by the patient is thrown into the atmosphere. They are lightweight and easily carried systems that offer low resistance rates in spontaneous and positive pressure ventilation applications.

- The valve located at the end of the breathing bag provides end-expiration control.
